Following the birth of my son, I wanted to find stylish clothing for babies and children that sat happily with my conscience; garments made from ethically sourced materials that had been produced by companies that respected their workers and the environment.
I began to make bits and pieces for him, his friends and family - from recycled fabrics - and encouraged by the response I got, decided to launch Hay Baby.
The t-shirts and other pieces I decorate are fair-trade and made from super-soft organic cotton. Nothing is mass-produced; the whole approach is personal and items can be made to suit each customer’s wishes. By using vintage and recycled fabrics and buttons for the appliqué and bags I’m recycling and giving old – often favourite – pieces of clothing a new lease of life. Each garment is very special and makes a great gift whether you’re looking for something for a baby, a boy or a girl. Last Summer I opened a little shop in Hay-on-Wye where we sell the full range of Hay Baby products and a wider selection of clothing made by designers we admire for their quality and comfort. Here you'll find a selection of tops and dresses by the Danish company, Milibe, and in the shop there's more choice still - with clothing from Mini-A-Ture, Nova Star and Little Legend. We've also increased the range of toys and activities we offer and feature a good range from the French toy company Djeco. All the toys we have sourced are produced by ethically responsible companies in the UK or Europe and encourage children to play creatively.
